STR or Long Term Tenant? Pros and Cons for renting out our first home

Hello guys. So we have our first home that we are looking to rent out starting around the summer. Been going back and forth trying to decide if we should STR or rent out as a regular rental. Looking for some pros and cons and things to consider for both. The neighborhood is more in the ghetto area, but it is within walking distance of the river so we could potentially have kayaks etc in one of the garages that can be used with a str idea. I love the idea of STR and that is one thing I want to get into as well, just not sure with the neighborhood and the amount of work to fix up enough for that.

I'm quitting landlording in the Seattle area because of the anti-landlord environment. I've trying doing a couple str's instead. They don't makes as much money as they did as LTR but that's ok, I prefer the peace of mind of being in control of my property. I'm actually enjoying it. To paraphrase what someone on here said, "don't let them get too comfortable", they seem to appreciate you more, and I think it's true with STR. From what I understand, Oregon is also a dangerous place to be a landlord. Watch out with LTR. You better really know what you're doing, and you can still get screwed in the west states. Bevare LTR.
