Eligiblity for a Duplex as a Short term rental

Mohammad Murad
Posted

I am purchasing a Duplex. One of the unit is a long term rental and the other one Im planning for renting through Airbnb. I wanted to manage my self so It will be easily 100+ hours for cleaning and everything else. Does both units need to be rented as short term rental in order to be eligible for the STR loophole ( < 7 days average stay period)?

It is tax law, not a loop hole.

Interesting question, might need to prorate it? I would definitely ask your CPA to get clear guidance on this.
