My town's population is 9500. Last night our city commission approved a company to upgrade the network to 5G. About how long would it take and how many people would be involved. I'm asking this because I wonder if it is worth my time to try and get some business for my STRs. If it's 2 guys here for a week, I won't bother. If it's 6+ guys here for a month or longer, I'll give it my full force marketing effort.
@Paul Sandhu I can’t imagine it’s very long. If the towers are there already, it’s a day or few at each tower to add some equipment. If the towers need to be constructed, nowadays towers go up in a couple days.
Probably hotel stays at most, but most of the work is likely contracted out and workers are probably in and out the same day.
The whole process might take a year... but that’s permits, zoning, etc.
Hey @Paul Sandhu , just a quick story. I was boots on the ground after hurricane Katrina hit as part of the technology response for communication across the disaster zone. There were 3 of us in a team and we were installing portable WiMAX towers all over the area in order to get WiFi communications up for Red Cross, military, police and various other first responders.
Each tower was 40 feet tall and self contained. It took us 3 hours to get one up and running before we moved on. That included securing each tower and connecting it to the network. We programmed everything at the AstroDome before we deployed out.
Those towers were pretty simple and offered 5g speeds for dedicated communications. So, I think that in a non-emergency situation, 2 guys, 2 days. Maybe 3 depending on testing.
