Chlorine for your STR pools?

Chlorine for your STR pools?

Is anyone having trouble finding chlorine tablets?  My local Wal Mart was sold out yesterday.  A hardware store had 8 pound containers for $45.  It's my prediction that this summer people will be trading ammunition for chlorine and vice versa.  How stocked up are you on both?

Yep.. As much as I hate quoting CNBC.   Major chlorine tablet maker's plant burned down at the end of last year.  Out pool cleaner warned us about it in the fall.

@Ken Boone I read it will be next spring before that plant is back in operation, and they were the largest supplier in the US.  Not only is there a shortage, as expected the price of chlorine is going up significantly.

My pool cleaning company is recommending converting to a salt system at this point.

That is probably a good idea.  That's the recommendation we are hearing from our pool vendors as well.

Yes, there is going to be a chlorine shortage this year -- there is a shortage in supply due to the factory fire and an increase in demand due to all the new pools being built.

I would convert to salt ASAP before everyone else realizes and drives the price up!
