Tenant threatens to take me to small claim court

A tenant of mine claims gardeners scratched her cars. Gardener said he never did. I have a property management company manages this for me. And they hired gardeners. Now the tenant is threatening to take me and gardener together to small claim court for $1700 car fix. Property manager asks me if i want to pay. I don't think it's fair for me to pay. Gardener said she was lying. I think I will fight this in the court if needed. Please advise if you have similar experience. How should I prepare for this, and if I have a chance? Thanks!

It should be between the tenant and the gardener...and the PM.  Not sure how you are involved as you didn't hire them and didn't do the gardening.  The tenant will need to prove that it was the gardener that did the damage.
