I'm looking into starting a property management company. Does anyone have any advice on how to start one, what to look for as competitors in the market and how to prove to be a good company with no experience? Thanks in advance.

@Robbie Cotterman why would anyone hire you with no experience?

You may want to consider working for a PMC or as an agent, to gainthe experience necessary to be successful:)

We did a number of years ago. The quality of property management companies in Upstate New York is garbage.

@Robbie Cotterman, it's not as hard as one could imagine.

1) You need a tenant portal for online payments and submit maintenance requests.  Apartments.com and TenantCloud come to mind.

2) You should setup a separate support cell number, could be Google Voice, for tenants to reach you.

3) Connect with local vendors and handymen for repairs you cannot do yourself.  You can also signup to Thumbtack, Taskrabbit or HomeAdvisor/Angi for pros as well.

4) Done.
