A New Aspiring Investor

Hello! I’m excited to learn more about real estate investing, and to see what the Bigger Pockets community has in store. I would like to find advice and resources in the North County San Diego, CA market. I’m interested in house hacking within the next year or 2, but I am not sure if it is possible for me in the expensive San Diego market.

Thanks !

Bree

Hi Breanna and Welcome to BP!  It is definitely a lot more achievable to afford real estate in areas like San Diego than many would think...especially through house hacking.  It would be good to connect with other house hackers across the county over the next couple of years as you get ready to take your first step.

Your main house hacking options are:

1) Purchase a condo/townhome/single family home, live in one room and rent out the other rooms.

2) Purchase a single family home with an ADU and live in one of the dwellings and rent out the other

3) Purchase a 2 to 4 unit multifamily property to live in one unit and rent out the others.
