New to Real Estate - Seattle, WA; Binghamton, NY; Indiana, PA

Hello!

I am brand new to real estate and stumbled on this site.  I'm interested in getting into investing - renting and/or flipping.  I am currently a graduate student at Penn State (State College, PA - the very middle of the state), and I am moving to the Seattle area upon graduation this year.  I'm interested in real estate in both the Seattle area and where our parents live: Binghamton, NY and Indiana, PA - both have college populations that should be nice?  My sig. other is an engineer, and I work in science education.  We're under 30 with no children, and I'd love to start putting our money to work.  He is extremely handy with home projects (we've redone wooden floors, minor electrical and plumbing, cabinets, etc.), and I've been told I have an eye for design.  I'd love to hear stories about how people have started in this business - let the forum searches begin.  Let me know if you have any questions or advice! :)
