New Investor from Los Angeles!

Hello everyone! My name is Serena. I currently work full time as a mechanical engineer. I just bought my first home which is a condominium in Signal Hill. I am very new to the real estate world and have been trying to learn as much as possible. Right now, I am mostly interested in learning more about investing in apartment buildings. I haven’t decided about staying residential or commercial. I am also interested in learning about fix and flip houses. If anyone knows of any great meetups in the southern Los Angeles area please let me know! So glad to have joined BP!

Hey @Serena Halterman  welcome to the site! Definitely start jumping into the community here! Be sure to read through The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Real Estate Investing to help you get started.

Finally -be sure to setup some keyword alerts - especially for "Signal Hill" so you can jump into local conversations.

See you around the forums!

Welcome to the BP community, @Serena Halterman . @Brandon Turner and @Manolo D.  have pointed you in all the right directions, so take action right away. I'd start by reading the Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Real Estate Investing. It's free.

I might add the suggestion of going to the Learn tab above and clicking on Podcasts, AskBP Podcasts, pick some that sound interesting and listen. It's pretty easy to do...and it's free.

One more quick and easy thing to do is under the Resources tab, click on the Free Webinars. Register and attend Brandon's weekly Thursday evening webinar. You can't go wrong.

It's always a treat when a new member is local to my area. I'd love to tell you about all the great clubs and meetups that I could recommend, but I'd probably get in trouble with the moderator. Let me suggest instead that you go to MeetUp.com. Search for "Real Estate Investing" and "Cashflow Clubs". I'm planning to attend a meeting tomorrow evening at the Beverly Hills Country Club. Maybe you could Google it ("beverly hills country club real estate investing"). Perhaps I'll see you there. :D

Hey @Tom Mole , @Manolo D. and @Brandon Turner !! Thank you all for your suggestions! Brandon, your webinar "An Introduction to Investing in Apartment Complexes" is actually what made me join BiggerPockets and I am so glad I did! I am definitely planning on joining some meetups around the area and use this site as much as possible. There is really so much information here it can be a little overwhelming. I started listening to the BiggerPockets podcasts on my way to and from work which has also been very informative. Any more suggestions you have I would appreciate! Tom and Manolo, hopefully I will see you at some of the meetups!

He Serena,

There is a monthly BP meet up in LA. If you set up a keyword alert for it you will get a notification. Welcome to the site, and hope to see you at the meetings.
