How to Properly Reply to a Forum Discussion or Thread

Hi BP World:

I constantly see threads and discussions and I want to make sure I'm responding properly when I do interact. I see the @ followed by the BP members name. How do you get that to display so proper acknowledgement is given to the party you are replying to.

I hope this is not a silly question but I just want to practice proper technique while on BP
