Hello my name is Dwight, Im new to BP. Currently Im working as a contractor in Afghanistan. Before I came overseas in 2011 I worked as a Lead Maintenance for many different apartment complexes in Texas for 6 years where I developed an interest in RE. Finally I've earned some capital to get started buying my own properties. Finding BP has been a blessing. In just a fews days of reading the discussion Iv'e had so many questions answered and I've been enlightened to a list of topics that i need to focus on as a newbie. Everyone is very kind, helpful and professional Im glad to be here!! My goals are to be an owner occupant of a 4-plex utilizing a VA loan in the DFW area. I will be attempting to locate and purchase 3 homes in a price range of 50k-60k each this coming summer when I return, i figured this will a good starting point. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance

Hey Dwight Randall -

Welcome to BP! Awesome that you have joined us from all the way on the other side of the world. I just met a woman on a flight last weekend that is heading to Afghanistan for 18 months as a contractor and she is doing the same thing you are doing. She has acquired a couple of upper end properties in Phoenix where she lived, has a property overseas and is looking to invest more when she gets back.

Best of luck with your investing. I may not be the best person to help you find what you are looking for in the DFW area, but we are doing a lot of SFR investing there and in Memphis. However, don't hesitate to ask any questions as you get going.

Glad to have you here!

Dwight, Welcome to BP. There are a lot of people from DFW here. The fact you won't be back until summer is great. You have plenty of time to learn without impatience causing you to jump into a bad deal. Good luck and stay safe - Ned

Welcome to BP, Dwight. Your experience in apartment complex maintenance will be very useful as a quad investor. Let me know if I can help as I also invest in Income property in DFW.

Nice to meet you Ned,Yes sir Its good to see people already networking in the DFW area. And your right I will not have the same level of temptation to buy prematurely like my fellow newbies, at least for now. But I know nervousness and anxiety is waiting for me at the door steps of that first property lol. thanks

Welcome to BP Nation Dwight. I previously had investments in your area and believe you are in a great cash flow market. Stay active and ask questions, then apply what unlearn in the real world.
