Sending a letter to my tenant

Posted

I just bought my first out of state rental property in Illinois. (I'm in California) I bought the property through roofstock and the tenant had already been residing on the property for a year prior to me obtaining ownership of the property. Anyways I want to send my tenant a letter introducing myself as well as my family. I wanted to know your experience with doing this type of thing. It's hard to imagine any negative scenarios that could occur from doing this but I thought I would reach out to the BP community before proceeding. If you have done this do you include your return address when mailing a letter out?

Replied

If you have a property manager I would not contact the tenant. Let them deal with your property manager exclusively, otherwise you will receive calls in the middle of the night about repairs, clogged toilets, etc.

Never give your tenant your home address or home phone number for your safety. You don't know how someone will react if you have to evict them.

Good luck.
