New Investor and looking for ideas

Hey everyone, I am new to Real Estate. I currently live in Sonoma County CA, where prices are super high. I love BPP! I try to soak up as much information as I can. At the moment I do not own a home or any property, I am looking into investing in real estate. I want to buy a Multi-Family home but my area is to expensive. Should I buy outside Sonoma County? would this be a good idea? I am new to all this and just want to get as much info as I can from all the great BPP Family.
