Serious Question Must Be Soved!
What really did happen to the number one pencil? All I can find are number twos!
They did exist. :)

Go to a crafts store and you'll likely find #1 pencils (or at least #1 cartridges for mechanical pencils). #1 is still pretty common in the publishing industry, as #1 pencils are softer (the graphite) and therefore produce darker markings.
I assume #2 is standard because that's what worked best with the various technologies that were developed in the 80s (scan-tron machines, for example).
