As a real estate investor, I'm sure your experience is like mine in that you've seen some of the most ridiculous DIY nonsense ever installed to horrific and hilarious effect. I actually created a picture project to document this. Here are some of my favorites:

The Deck that is three times bigger than the house:

The basement door leading into a concrete wall:

Hooking a duct vent into a plumbing stack:

I don't have photos, but there was one house where the stairs to get to the third floor bedrooms were only accessible through a door that was inside the second floor bathroom. That same house had a back room on the first floor with an outdoor jacuzzi installed inside. 

I have to say that there's another thread with a photo of an RV cut up and supported midair on beams. That was a doozy.
