Landlords sue Minneapolis over Section 8

Landlords are suing Minneapolis over the requirement to accept Section 8 housing vouchers:

Personally I am not surprised about this and think they may be successful as this ordinance is really discriminating against the landlords.  For those of us who have rented properties and accepted Section 8 we all know there are additional hassles involved in the property management phase.

Posting this to pass on the information to those with properties in Mpls.

Good evening to you all!

There is case law that relates to this.  I believe the courts will allow local and state governments to make recipients of federal benefits to be a protected class.

Even without such a protection, you have to consider a disparate impact claim.  MANY of the people on section 8 are in protected classes.

I would rather have an ordinance than have the city decide to help potential tenants bring disparate impact claims against individual landlords.  They can absolutely provide free legal aide.
