Is Acreage/Farm housing practical for a non country person?

All,

I moved to Austin 2 years ago, still renting and finding that real estate is getting real expensive here. Homes in desirable neighborhood are getting out of reach.

I see that going out to the country side (pretty much the same commute time) costs just the same as living in the city. I see getting a home with acreage allows for a homestead lifestyle where you can grow your own crops and even raise livestock. I am researching a few and obviously they are priced lower due the following issue. Not sure which one makes sense to pursue.

  1. Land is in Regulatory floodway zone - It seems that this is one that can be rectified
  2. Close to Cemetery - This seems conflicted, I personally dont mind though it seems that some people care and some dont
  3. if there is enough acreage - is it possible to have an cabin with Airbnb rentals, to supplement the income.
  4. Financing for farms, do banks lend out easily as I dont plan to farm actively.

I am new to the whole acreage homes with farms. Kinda lost in the search, seems like a lot of 10 acre farms around Austin area.. though these are moving farther from the city and getting pricier by the day.
