Shot-Term Rental Anchorage Tax

Hi all,

Just recently listed my first property on Airbnb and I have a couple questions about taxes. If I understand correctly, Airbnb automatically collects Anchorage muni 12% tax from the guest (see article here) and I don't need to worry about it. However, when I'm looking at other listings, there is often a line-item for "Occupancy taxes and fees."

Is that fee automatically added by Airbnb, or is that added by the host? If added by Airbnb, why don't I see it on my listing? If added by host, am I currently covering taxes out of my payout and I should add a taxes and fees charge to each booking?

@Kaiden Foster - I think you have it correct. AirBnb collects the "bed tax" up front and gives it to the MOA. AirBnb has all your taxable information for the 1099 already - so that's how they get that to the Muni @Connor Dunham

I am planning a BP all invite investors meetup on November 18th with Tyler Cobb - and we've reserved space upstairs at 49th State Brewing (7pm) - we'd love to see you guys there. Talking investments - networking - etc.
