Hello,

I am moving to Chicago in the coming month to take a job. I will be working on

E Randolph St, Chicago, IL - 60601.

I have never been to Chicago and have no idea what the housing market is like or what decent areas I can find a single family home for under $200,000 or if homes within that range in decent areas exist.

I would like to find a fixer, but not a complete rehab. It's just for me and plan to sell or rent in a few years after my contract is finished.

I am looking for a little information or guidance, recommendations, on the different areas.

Thanks in advance for any replies

@Kenneth Kussman - Again, it is going to depend on your budget.  The closer to the loop the more expensive it is.  Anything along these stops is what I would consider a good area

The northern ones you can find a good 2 bedroom for $1300 - $1500 halfway between you are looking at $1700 - $2000 and downtown can be $2300 +

We have a pretty competitive rental market, anything good is off the market in a few days, so I would suggest using a rental agency for your first time.  Especially if you are not familiar with the neighborhoods.  Check out hotpads.com too for independent landlord listings.
