Newbie: How to read a title report to understand positioning?

Hello, I have been listening to podcast and following the website but I'm green to auction foreclosures.   I am looking at foreclosure auctions and researching title reports but I find them confusing.  How do I know what position the loan/lien is in when reading the report?  For instance, one report states a refinance date with the same owner -  the mortagage record states first loan, stand alone second.  So is this the first or second loan?   I Googled stand alone second and seems like a line of credit.  Also, how do you know if previous mortgages are still on title even with the same owner?  Many thanks BP community!
