Working for a property management company

Has anyone worked for a property management company before investing in rental properties? Since I do not have much money to invest at this point, I thought I could work for a property management company, learn how to manage rentals, and then go in on a partnership with a cash investor where I would run the rental properties and they would provide majority of capital and act more as a silent partner.  Anyone gone this route?
