Moving across the country - New to all of this!

Hi Everyone!!

I reside in the East Coast and was just presented with an opportunity which would require me to move to the West Coast. I own a duplex with my brother that we both occupy. I am going to have to rent out my 1/2 of the duplex and very nervous about it! I have been doing extensive research and came across this site.

I am hoping anyone could provide me guidance about renting across the country. My duplex is side by side so renter would have to mow lawn and shovel snow. Are renters open to this option? I won't be making a ton of profit from it so I am looking to keep my expenses low. Also any suggestions on collecting rent? I fear snail mail will take too long in the process. Although my brother will live next door I cannot put any burden or responsiblity on him.

Appreciate any guidance you can provide. Also do you find renters stay put for a while or move every year causing this process to repeat over and over again? Lots of questions!!
