Help understanding tax lien

David R Duitsman
Posted

Hi, I was looking at tax lien properties and needed clarification. I did email the treasurer and am waiting for a reply. But figured I'd ask here as well. The amount is in thousands right? Yearly tax amount was 700ish so this is ten years of back taxes? The biggest amount is for the school district, so anyone have experience in negotiating that amount down?  Thank you!

"Run title searches before you purchase tax liens, you end up inheriting all liens."

Actually that is not always correct. Most liens are wiped out by a tax lien foreclosure. You need to know the specific state laws for the state you are investing in. In Maryland the law is clear all liens are wiped out except IRS liens.
