Checking for liens on a property before an auction.

I am going to my first auction to observe this week but I wanted to do some research on properties being auctioned that day before I got there. Are there any public searches you can do to find out if there is a liens on a property? What are the best ways to find out if properties have liens on them? Thanks!

Following because I had the same question.

I was following a property I wanted to buy at auction. I contacted the county treasurer's office and was told I could come in and perform a search on their public computer. I found no loans but was not confident that was the most effective method.
