I'm looking for someone to shoot aerial photography/video of acreage near Dallas - DFW. Any recommendations?

Funny thing happened out of this thread. After it had been up for about three days I started getting emails, texts, and calls from aerial photography guys. Some had real simple messages wanting my business. Others sent sample videos and websites. The quality was all over the place. I'm planning to follow up with some of the better ones soon.

Jon... if you've not found your man yet, but me up privately and I'll put you in touch with one of the leaders of the local done users groups. Know he does some work for law enforcement and frequently shows up in done related media, so if he can't do what you need done, I'd bet he knows someone who can.

i am sure you can spend even more on the equipment, but the basic areal shot can be done cheeply these days. do you think that the average buyer of a house that's not 1M or above can tell? as long as there is a wide angle shot of the property, they'd be stoked. i'd personally buy one and learn how to fly it if i was to do this often. but i'd get one to fit my D700 with the 20mm nikkor.

George: It takes a lot more drone (money) than this to address the real estate market for aerial photos & videos. It's probably a good learning tool though. I use a Phantom 3 Pro. The necessary equipment should cost around $2,000 to $2,500 (including a fast tablet: iPad Air 2) at a minimum.

The FAA is granting exemptions to certain organizations, most notably Amazon. See below: http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2015/04/09/faa... It seems like the FAA has just temporarily banned the commercial use of drones while they figure out what policies to put in place. In the mean time, I think anyone who has the skill an expertise to put together this service in an area where there is demand for drone photography/video and can jump through all the hoops once the FAA has laid them out would have a successful business on their hands.

We had a hot air balloon set up from our church last Sunday for an event we had. AS we were setting up, a guy stopped and ask if he could video it from his drone. That thing was amazing. It was so stable and picture was high quality. His had a camera that was controlled and could move and his remote had a video screen. Is was just some random guy that stopped and I don't know if he does this as a hobby or what. I'll see if anyone know his name. Keep in mind that the FAA frowns on commercial use of "drones" (big scary word the press likes to use to refer to what's really just an R/C helicopter with a camera on it....) aka UAVs I've seen a few wholesalers start to use these types of images recently.. It's just a matter of time before on of them gets in hot water. If there are commercial outfits doing this, it's worth asking the question.. Although it's likely that only the person doing the flying would have any issue, not you as the client Good luck!
