Any Investors Living Abroad?

I'd like to know about your success with investing from overseas. I am living out of the country (unemployed at the moment). My wife works a full-time job, which brought us overseas. I have a 2 bedroom condo in D.C. and my wife and I are considering our options; sell and use the profits to reinvest in a house in D.C., use the profits to invest in an upcoming neighborhood in Philadelphia, or hold the condo in D.C. and raise the rent considerably. We currently meet our expenses with the rent from the condo, but we realize we could be making a couple of hundred more from rent. Plus since I am not working, we need any extra income we can get.

I'm want to hear the success stories of others in my situation because I'd like to strategically invest in real estate from abroad. I have a lot of free time since I am not working. So, I need to know what may be practical for my situation, not being able to be on the ground in the states, but having a considerable amount of profit to use from the sale of my condo if that makes the most sense at this time. Perhaps I may learn from your experiences. Thanks!
