Does Kitchen require a window by code?

Does anyone know if a window is required in kitchens by code? Or is exhaust hood ventilation fine?

I know of lots of houses where there is no window in the kitchen.  Sam is right, check with your city.

There are lots of row houses in parts of San Francisco where you have limited opportunity to have windows except in the front or back of the house.  Hope they have a reasonable code.

I'll check with the city - I'm in San Francisco and hopefully they don't have a crazy code in place.
