How to approach a mentor

Hey,

I wanted to have some insight on how to approach someone that I'd really like to be my mentor. In case they don't know me at all, and we've never met before, should I contact them via email to let them know my interest in them? should I simply ask them for their time and go for a coffee? What could be a good strategy?

Thank you in advance!
