Buying Land with Well Water

Hello we are considering buying property with well water in hopes that the land will eventually be connected to the city water.  I called the city and they have no idea when this might happen.  How difficult is well water to deal with?  Again this is just land but I considered building on it but not sure about well water. Any guidance and thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks TLD
