Renting Room(s) in your private home

I am curious about those who rent a room on Furnished Finders (like to travel nurses) in their private home.  Talk to me about your experience.  I wonder about protecting my private items.  What is the good, bad and ugly of this?  Do you ever go away (vacation) when you have these tenants in your home?
