Well, Zillow will show houses that are on the market and ones that have recently sold. A fun game to play is to drive around, pick out about 10 houses and guess what they might sell for. You can then go back to the internet and use the various websites; zillow, redfin, etc. to see how close you came. I would start with a small neighborhood first. Look at the different types of construction. Check out the roofs, garages, amenities in the area. Go to open houses. Call for rent ads. Check the newspaper real estate section. See if the grocery store as any of the free magazines dedicated to real real estate. Find an agent willing to work with you and ask that person to comp a few houses out so you can look over the listings and see what creates a comparable sale; sq/ft, beds/baths, lot size, age, etc. Good luck!

Realtor.com, Redfin, Citi data and US census are good starts. Recent Closed properties, demographics, path of progress and job outlook are all critical. Call the economic development office for your city, they are helpful. Visit your city websight to learn of growth and future plans. Realtors will give you recent closed price by the foot comps. Dane

What are you trying to find? You can try the Mecklenburg county POLARIS system... I guess it depends on what you are trying to do.

I am surprised no one mentioned Realquest.com. I've been using it for years now and have had great results with it. I would use findcompsnow.com's comps as well as zillow.
