Has anyone lost a property due to fire, flood, etc?

Hi BPer's,

I know this is not a pleasant question, but it's something I'm forced to think about as a property owners and investor.  Has anyone had a complete loss of a property as a result of fire, flood, etc? If so, how was your experience with your homeowner's insurance company and the rebuild?  Did your insurance company make the process smoother or were they difficult?  If so, what insurance companies do you suggest to use and avoid? Also, what did you learn from that experience and what do you do now to make sure to mitigate financial losses?

Thanks in advance!

Mosun
