Buying materials for contractor

I am out of state investor wanting to buy material for contractors. Where do you recommend buying from? And is this a smart choice?

Also thinking to hire my own hvac, plumbing, and electrical? Is this a smart decision too?

There's no right or wrong way to do this, but long distance deals with contractors can go badly in many ways, probably more horror stories than success stories.

How well do you know this contractor? Have you met in person? Do you have a local team who will help you with project management? I'd be leery regardless of who is buying the materials, it's very common for contractors to rip off absentee clients in many ways.
