Rent or Buy (Then Rent Out) During 6-Month Stationing in Groton, CT

Hey everyone! My fiancé and I will be stationed in Groton, CT for about six months while he attends school. We’re debating whether to rent a place for that time or purchase a property to live in temporarily and then turn it into a rental once we move. We are open to looking outside of Groton too - and considering New Haven.

We’d love any insight or advice on the Groton/New Haven market — especially from anyone familiar with short-term owner-occupancy followed by long-term rentals. Is this a good area for rental demand and appreciation? Anything we should watch out for in terms of property taxes, regulations, or neighborhoods?

Thanks so much for your help!
