Hi Jessica,

Welcome (almost) to Cape Town! It's great to see your interest in Gordon's Bay. It's a beautiful area with a lot of potential.

I saw your post and thought I'd reach out. I work for Helix International Real Estate Advisory Limited, a UK-registered company founded by South Africans. While we're based in London, we have offices right here in Cape Town, as well as in Brussels and Dubai, with a representative office in LA. We specialise in helping international investors just like you with their cross-border property investments and can assist with all deal sizes.

It's good that you're already thinking about the key questions like rental strategies and the legal and tax implications for non-residents. Those are exactly the hurdles where things can get complicated, but we can detail the exact steps for purchasing property in South Africa to make the process clear for you.

Helix’s whole approach is built on the idea that "HOW you own is just as important as WHAT you own". We're not real estate brokers; we're advisors who help create the best structure for your investment. We work with brokers when we need to, but our primary role is to guide your strategy.

For our clients, we assist with:

  • Ownership Strategy: We provide advice on the most tax-efficient and structurally sound way to own the property, whether it's through a local company or another vehicle.
  • Full-Service Guidance: We can assist with the practical side of things too, including relocating and rental needs.
  • Peace of Mind: Essentially, we act as an "investment concierge" to handle the complex tax, structuring, and compliance aspects under one roof.

Since you're planning to be in South Africa for a while, it might be helpful to have a chat. My colleague Katherine Sinclair is our General Manager and the best point of contact. You can reach her at Katherine at helixinternational dot uk

No pressure at all, but we're here to help if you'd like to explore the best way to kickstart your investment journey. Good luck with the move and your research! 😊

All the best

Dov

Hello.

This is actually my first post on bigger pockets, although I have been a member for sometime.

I live in Cape Town, South Africa. I am a professional architect who LOVES property investment and development. I have recently started my own architectural practice and I am looking at using it as a means to invest in property.

Just out of interest, what are the Returns on Investment that you guys experience in the USA? In South Africa, we look at a ROI for property sales from 20% and up and look at a yield for rental properties of 6/7% and up.

I look forward to your thoughts...
