Hi everyone I am new to this and learning as I go.  I have an extra room in my primary residence and I decided the best way to start and learn would be to rent that out.

I guess I am just looking for general advice as to what I should do in this situation and what I should be looking out for especially when it comes to screening.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

@Alecia Ashby right now I am trying to build capital for the most part. I'm still working to get the money necessary but still keeping my eyes open for opportunities that I can take advantage of right now.

Welcome! I'm a newbie as well and have family in Sioux City so I'm pretty familiar with the area.

@Jasmine Wilborne Thanks!

I really like that motto. I have started to get more serious about things and have amped up my efforts to find something. Hopefully it pays off!

@Alecia Ashby I am honestly open to anything that makes sense for me and my goals. I have kind of been focusing on vacation rentals as that makes the most sense in my mind and I am willing to invest anywhere if it makes sense. Do you invest around here?

@Chase Keller I've heard Airbnb can be a good route. It is an option I am definitely open to.

@Todd Hoffman that is something I would definitely be interested in. I grew up not too terribly far from the Okoboji area and know the area well. I will definitely be keeping my eyes open to an opportunity like that.

Been lurking for a little bit and thought I'd finally jump in and introduce myself. I've been interested in real estate for quite some time, but have only recently started getting serious about it.

Right now I am just trying to learn as much as I can and build capital, as well as develop relationships and build my network. My biggest interest right now is in vacation rentals, but I am open to any avenue that comes along that makes sense for me and my goals.

I am looking forward to meeting many of you great people and starting this journey!
