Post: How Do You Feel About the May 1 Protests?

Excellent quote wlm

My opinion is that those who should be out protesting are the immigrants who are here legally. They are the ones who put forth the effort to come across the border legally.
I understand that if we go far enough back in our own heritage, we all have immigrant lineage...but like has been mentioned before, we all assimilated to the culture. Having dual citizenship is great, but people shouldn't try to change the culture of one country to fit their habits from another country.
I have visited and lived many parts of the Americas, and had many friends who have done the same in Europe, and in every situation, if a citizen of the USA were to expect everything to be done in English and well as the native language of the country (though recognizing it is like this in most big cities - but definately not the smaller cities), then the native people would be outraged.
If people want to immigrate to the USA, I have no problem with it, I would probably strive to do the same, but we shouldn't change our culture to fit someone else's (such as translating the our Natinal Anthem into Spanish - I was not a fan of that.)

ckt, if your credit is as bad as it sounds, I don't know if you really have a whole lot of options. You can talk to your local bank, and depending on the reason for you bad credit, they may be able to help a little - but I still think anywhere you go for a loan, it's going to be a pretty high-interest loan...if they agree to give you a loan.

I'm actually not finished reading it - about half way through it right now, but "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert T. Kiyosaki and Sharon L. Lechter. It really has a ton of great info on how to manage your finances and what to teach your kids to help them learn how to do it as well.

I'll agree with this because not only is price relative, but I think location is also. The house I grew up in is in Northern Utah and the housing market, depending on the area, is really booming and show no signs of slowing down. Whereas other areas that were booming just a year ago have had a huge drop-off. Just in the last couple of years, the value of our home has nearly doubled. They have just added two or three new subdivisions of 80+ houses per subdivision on 1/4-1/3 acre lots - and all but a few of the lots are already sold.
So, from what I've seen, I think "the bubble" has to do a lot with the area you live in. If people want to move there, then the bubble is in no danger of bursting. (Where I grew up, it's a small, more rural-type community). I think the bubble is more likely to burst in the cities because people are looking to get away from the "city-life".

I'll have to get on and check it out more closely - most of the stuff I was for houses and properties that people are trying to dump...so they wanted just a lump sum for it. But with it just being the down payment, that changes a lot - like I said - I'll get on and look at it - Thanks!

Hey, welcome to the forum - you'll love it here.
On a side note, I had a guy (from California) that was trying to tell me that Staten Island was in New Jersey, and not New York. Is there a Staten Island, NJ that I'm not aware of??

I buy all sorts of stuff on ebay...just never real estate. I've looked at it a few times, but I get nervous spending that much money on ebay. With something like real estate - I have to see it in person before purchasing it - too many factors.

In my opinion - I think the major problem with college students today is two fold. The college culture is definately far different today that it was some years ago - especially with the classes being offered and the agenda that a lot of the professors have outside of teaching their class.

But I thihk the other side to the issue is that if we send our kids to school without a clear idea of what the "real world" is like, then we haven't done our job as parents. It is our job to instill good attitudes and good judgement in our kids - because if we leave it up to their friends and the school systems and popular culture to do so, then most likely they will form "warped" opinions of the world around them.

I personally don't have any leads to be able to pass on to you - but we do work with Barbara Zaccagnini, a Greenwich Realtor, quite often who does have a lot of connections and leads if you want to talk with her.

Funny that you should mention that - one of my friends and I were talking about this yesterday when he said the same thing almost verbatim. But it's so true. People say the mexican immigrants are taking away jobs from americans...but the truth be known, one of the reasons businesses can hire them for the jobs they do is because a lot of Americans are too arrogant to take a job they think is below them or their status...some (Americans) are more content to stay at home and receive unemployment and complain about not having a job than going out and getting a job. If someone disagrees - just go down to the local Department of Workforce Services (DWS)and hang around there for a little while - you'll see it's true. I have relatives that work DWS and some of the stories they have about a lot of white americans looking for jobs is amazing.
