Post: Why is Puerto Rico not in the listing drop down?

I’m a broker in Vieques, PR (zip code 00765) and while sitting in covid lockdown I thought, hey why don’t I start inputting my listings into Bigger Pockets. Lo and behold Puerto Rico is not a valid selection so I sent an email to support and their answer was they only cater to the “United States” but will forward my request to the Marketplace manager and that it may take a while.

If you care to see this change and have started investing in Puerto Rico please help with getting this minor change implemented. My background is in software dev and I worked on a major bank's REO website query improvements so I'm quite confident it's not an earth shattering technological challenge. By sending an email along to request Puerto Rico be added so you can use filtering etc just as with any other state you'd be helping me and other interested folks out. Here is the message I sent:

——

....it seems that you are neglecting a part of the United States that for all intents and purposes is equivalent to states especially as it relates to real estate and property investments. Someone at Bigger Pockets is either short sighted or needs to brush up on their world knowledge.

Puerto Rico is served by USPS, we have a representative in Congress and we pay into social security and Medicare. Furthermore all federal loans including USDA loans are available here for properties!!!!!

....Can you please escalate this request to a manager or someone who can explain the business decision to exclude Puerto Rico? Zillow, realtor.com etc all have Puerto Rico listings. I find it pretty disheartening and seriously illogical that you would exclude Puerto Rico. I look forward to a follow up on this communication.

Adding Puerto Rico to the drop down should not be a giant technological feat. We are served by the same zip code service as all of the rest of the United States.

Hello! If you are looking at Vieques, please contact me.  I'm more than happy to share with you my lessons learned and tips/tricks/pitfalls.  I've been in vacation property management for 6 years and am a broker.  I only focus on Vieques, a separate island municipality,  which is a bit different than the main island in many ways.

Hello folks!  I'm a newbie on bigger pockets but have 6+ years of vacation property rental management experience in Vieques, PR (a separate island municipality) and a real estate broker.  I'm more than happy to answer questions on AirBnB/other rental platform performance, Vieques specific market questions, or any other general PR related property questions from hotelier tax to property maintenance pitfalls/lessons learned.

The "major disaster" declaration is totally inappropriate for the island of Vieques. It is entirely inaccurate and has questionable motives behind it.   Vieques got incredibly lucky and there is no major structural damage and minimal impact/disruption to the island - considering the size and force of Irma.  The island was without power for 7 days but we had no loss of life, minimal loss to property (mostly trees down).  This declaration is unfortunate as it's negatively impacting our rental/tourism  outlook for the season.  The community is starting a counter campaign so I'm just posting here to convey that Vieques is open for business and we are emphatically NOT a major disaster area. I'm a newb on bigger pockets, so be gentle with me.

A real opportunity to make your mark in Vieques, a separate island municipality of Puerto Rico. A commercially zoned mixed use building in the center of Isabel II, the commercial center.  4200 sq ft high ceiling space on the ground floor next door to the mayor's office and across from the town pharmacy. The building has two 2200 sq ft 2 bedroom units on the 2nd floor. The ap

artments are fully furnished and feature spacious balconies, tile flooring, 2 large bedrooms and plenty of closet space and air conditioning. A large entertainment space/covered patio on the 2nd floor has glimpses of the ocean and can be a separate entertainment space. This well built property is within a few short blocks of the ferry, bank, government offices and the town plaza. Minutes from the world famous beaches of Vieques. Multiple water and electric meters.  This property used to be the only furniture store in Vieques but the space is incredibly flexible.  Vieques is an unspoiled and raw Caribbean island with a booming tourism industry driven by its world famous bio luminescent bay. $520,000.  Brokered by: Adrienn Lanczos C-18835 PH: 845-430-7479
