Post: House Hacking In New York City?

@Joshua Morency I started out by househacking a 3 bedroom rental allowing me to basically live rent free for a few years while I saved up enough money to buy a condo. Just make sure you try to househack in a desirable area where people will pay a high amount per bedroom. Brooklyn, Manhattan and Western Queens are good areas for this and townhouses/ small landlords will probably give you the most opportunity. After a few years you can springboard into a small multi-family or multi-room condo/ coop.

@Bruce Faulk Upstate NY you can get this. In B area's of Albany, NY you can get a 2 family house for $150K in decent shape. As for your numbers, you could probably self manage, saving yourself some money. Just find yourself a good handyman to call on when things break. Happy to jump on a call to discuss further.

@Quentin Thiery great observations. NYC can be expensive to start and or continue investing in. We purchased 3 properties in the South Bronx, before deciding to give Albany a try, mostly due to the price point. Due also Albany has several schools, hospitals and also all the state workers. It is a nice trifecta :) So far Albany has been very good to us, so drop me a line if you want to chat more about the Capital Region.

I am looking at a 2 unit property in Poughkeepsie this Friday with the idea to BRRR it. Has any BP members invested there and how did you fare? How was your tenant base? I am fairly seasoned investor, but this will be my first foray into the market there. Thank you for your insight.
