Thanks for the kind words, gents. If the planets align as I hope I will likely be based around the Plano area (main job, easy routes to airport), but setting up some alerts with some key words is a good call @Sol N.

To be honest, until recently I hadn't considered real estate as a real investment, more of a place to live, but after looking at some of the material here I'm beginning to incline towards the multi-family (2plex, 3plex, 4plex) unit-type approach to maximise initial investment, and take advantage of any tax breaks whether now or down the road. But then I'm very very new to this, and have only been a renter myself so far so any advice is appreciated.

Since I have no credit history across the pond I'm guess I'll have to start with building that up for the first few months while I look around and consider any options.

Would love to hear any thoughts from more experienced people!

Hi all,

I've stumbled on Bigger Pockets while perusing real estate opportunities in the Dallas, TX area. I currently live in Ireland, but am considering a relocation to (hopefully) warmer and drier Texas over the coming months. As I will also need a place to live, I thought 'why not make it an investment?' A few internet searches later, here I am. Hoping osmosis will do its thing and I will learn lots about investing in real estate in Texas from the more experienced members here, and very much enjoying the quality of the articles available!
