I agree with @Jarrid Weber, be sure to research taxes in a home that won’t be your primary. I am in Columbia and my primary home is taxes 4% while my four rentals at at 6%. With the right deal you can still cash flow but the tax rules make it pretty difficult!
Shoot me a message if you have any questions, I currently have four STRs in Columbia.

I would for sure want all hosts to leave guests a review so when they try to rent from me I can know whether or not to decline.

I would recommend only commenting on things they did that there were clear guidelines for. Example: leaving the thermostat on 80, did they know where you wanted it left? I have a list of checkout procedures for guests which included where I want the thermostat left in the winter and in the summer.

Make it as easy as possible for guests to know your expectations and that will leave you with the highest probability of having a good experience.

Not from the area but from what I have researched rental rates around Bragg are very high compared to most areas in the Carolinas. Figure out how much you can cash flow after paying somebody to manage it. Even if its a fairly small cashflow it may be worth it to have the equity in house.
