Post: Why I'm not a flipper

@Mark Ferguson ,

I recently attended an event that spoke about taxes. There, the attorney suggested that as flippers we create a S-Corp that allows us to pay ourselves a W-2 salary (say $100,00.00) so that we fall into a smaller tax bracket, and then use all the left over money earned from flipping as business revenue (anything above $100,000.00) towards funding future flips (which is what we would most likely be using the money for eventually), and not be taxed so highly on our personal earnings. Is that not something that you do? If not, why? I'm curious to understand your tax logic a bit more.

Thanks for your post. I'm a newbie and am trying to understand different trains of thought.

@Cailan Knight ,

So my mom always told me, "He who serves best, gains the most".

If you really want to make an impression on this lady who needs help, ask her what you can do to help her get her units back on track. Donate some of your time for a better cause. Then, as you work with her, mention that you are an investor and if she ever wanted to sell that you would be happy to help her with that as well. And maybe even help her find a cute little home where she would be more comfortable and not constantly reminded of her husbands death bed.

I can attest to the power of a helping hand. More doors have opened up for me in my life through helping others than in any other form. Just a suggestion :) Good luck, sir!

@Jonna Weber ,

Hi there! I just heard the podcast you were interview on. My first days and I'm already getting hello's from Celebrities... that's awesome! The fact that you are a mom and have found a way to juggle family and real estate investing is a big inspiration to me. I learned a lot from your podcast about keeping it simple. I feel as though there is hope for me in REI. So thank you for sharing your story and knowledge with all of us.

I would love to meet with you sometime. I'll make sure let you know the next time I am in your neck of the woods!

Have a great day Jonna!!

@Dan Walters ,

Good to meet you, and thank you for the advice and motivation. I recently moved from Nampa. I love Idaho! I pretty much grew up there. I love what they are doing to the Meridian/Eagle area. Lots of expansion and growth. Are you working in that area at all?

I didn't decide on real estate investing until I moved to Utah, so I'm sure I missed a good opportunity to invest there.

Thanks again for the warm hello :)

@Michele Fischer  ,

I look forward to listening to that podcast :). What you and your husband are doing sounds amazing! Thank you for putting a positive stamp on the world... you are an inspiration!

I don't have the means to do buy and holds at the moment, but that is my ultimate goal. If  you have any personal tips on how to get started, I'd love to hear them.

I just heard a BP podcast (show 82) that touched on this. According to what was said, you CAN use a 1031 on multiple properties, but you need to verify it with your CPA.

Hope this helps :)

Mike! @Mike Gallagher

Good to meet you, neighbor! I'm about to move to Farmington from Taylorsville, so I'll be close to your neck of the woods. It would be great to meet up. I am looking into flipping houses to start off. I'd love to be able to meet in person someday and talk about real estate over some coffee or hot chocolate (if coffee isn't your thing ;) ).

Hi Janine @Janine Smith ,

Thank you for introducing yourself. It's good to meet you. I recently relocated to  Utah from Idaho. I was in Boise for about 6 months, and my mother and two sisters live there now. How's the market there?

Hi Michele @Michele Fischer ,

You are a sweetheart! Thank you so much for saying hi.

I love that we share a common goal, and that we have both found a way to obtain it. I wish you the best in all you do and hope that we keep in touch.

What is your main focus with RE investing?

Also, I see you are from Washington. I lived in Sedro-Woolley for a year (Near Mt. Vernon). I absolutely enjoyed all the green that state had to offer. It's a beautiful state!

Hi Ethan @Ethan Bowen ,

It's great to meet someone near me! I would love to go to REIA meetings. I was doing some research and got the information. I will definitely make it the next time they hold the monthly meeting.

Hope to see you there, and thanks for introducing yourself to me. I look forward to someday meeting you in person.
