 Hi Lisa...

I'm currently in the process of filing an Alabama LLC Series. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the law started January 1, 2015. @Helen Kirk is right about changing the paperwork at a later date.

I personally like the Series format and while it is new in Alabama and is sure to have some kinks they will need to work out, I think in the long run it's a great option especially if you own multiple properties, have other ancillary REI businesses, and from my preliminary research so far, may offer some protection from the portions of the Dodd-Frank act that place limitations on the number of Seller Financed properties you can transact in a 12-month period (currently it's 3 per individual or entity without having to get a Residential Mortgage Lender's Originators License - RMLO).

Nothing beats talking to an attorney of course. I found a great video that gives you a good Introduction to the Alabama Series LLC from an attorney in Birmingham... I hope it helps.

Hi Seth,

That was a major part of it. When it comes to RE, CA (especially Southern CA) is like a "knife fight in a phone booth"...LOL. Between prices and determining who's serious and who's trying to "get one past you", it's not where I want to focus my efforts right now.

BHAM is also a great town for family...Green and beautiful... probably had more rain last week than CA has in the last 4 years.

They've got a very cool artist scene. I like what I see happening with the renaissance of the downtown area.

Was visiting a friend's restaurant downtown last year and while walking and discovering the area, I came across this 2 story store-front conversion to a town-house/loft hybrid.... can't see the baby grand piano on the ground floor, but it's definitely there.... In CA that's a fortune to buy and rehab. In Birmingham it's possible.

Lot's more pluses, few minuses... Got me BAMA bound!

Hello everyone! I am new to the BigPockets family. I'm a new investor currently transitioning from Southern CA to the Birmingham Area. Bham is an awesome city with lots to do and in my humble opinion offers a lot of potential for investors. My goals are cash flow income properties as well as buy-and-flip.

I look forward to meeting fellow investors in Birminham!
