Tyler,

Just as James said, vacancy rates are low and rents are high.  I don't know much about Fairbanks, but I do know that there is a shortage of housing in Anchorage which keeps the rents high and probably will for a long time.  Talking to some old timers here, even during low points in the economy, rents have stayed strong even when housing prices went down.  So yes, from my limited experience here in Anchorage, I would say it is a great place to invest in buy &I hold.

Hello all!

I am a new member to BP and I currently live in Anchorage. I was very happy to hear that wholesaling in Alaska is not in fact "illegal" as my realtor friend told me. I am a novice investor with a fourplex and duplex. I am hoping to start wholesaling to earn capital in order to buy more rental properties or flip properties. I would be very interested in starting a small meetup group that could meet once a month or so in order to network and learn from more experienced investors. Or if there is already a group, where do you guys meet up? I checked the meetup.com site and couldn't find any REI groups. Please let me know if you know of any current groups besides REX in Anchorage or if you would be interested in starting a group with me!
