Hey all! I've been interested in real estate investing for a while and currently work in affordable housing development.  Anyone in RI/MA doing development? I'd love to connect with people doing development on the small scale, as it's something I'd like to do someday, and ideally get involved however possible.

Hey! I’m also an aspiring investor in the Boston area!   I haven’t bought any property yet, but I feel like buying with friends would require communication above all.

Hi Conner,

I'm not in New England, but maybe I can help you get things off the ground a little more.

Please tell us why you think mixed use and multi-family are the way to go for you, and also why you believe that aiming them towards new urbanism and the climate issue is a good strategy for your future?

Also, why are you not building on your existing strengths and contacts in affordable housing and going down that path?

The answers to those might give people a better idea of the ideas you have for your future.

(and I'm not looking to mentor anyone, but I will answer your questions online in the forum (if I can)--where everyone can benefit from learning)

Good Luck!

Thanks for the input! I am definitely comfortable in affordable housing and will probably have it form a part of my long term plans.  The general interests I have came from my academic background (urban planning, which is how I got into real estate to begin with).  I see my goals as informing, not directing, any RE investments I make.

Hey everyone! I’ve been interested in real estate investing and following Bigger Pockets for a couple years now. Figured I’d say hello.

I live in Boston, MA and work in Providence, RI in affordable housing (development financing), which has really helped develop my interest in real estate. I’m interested in both investment and development. I hope to invest, probably in multifamily, at some point in the next few years, so I want to get more involved in things in the meantime. Long term, I hope to start a development company, focusing on mixed-use and multifamily projects, with a climate and New Urbanist bent.

I’d love to talk with people in the MA and RI area. Honestly, I’m posting first with the hopes of networking and developing some connections with people who actually do what I want to do, who may be able to give me some advice and a view of what it’s really like. I’d love to do a little shadowing, get the lay of the land beyond just running numbers, potentially find deals for others, maybe someday have the opportunity to partner, and generally get to know the for-profit RE world.
