Hey Darin, I’d be happy to chat about your goals. I’ve house hacked my last 3 homes, and bought rentals too.

Having "house hacked' my first three homes. I would not change a single thing. The best route in my opinion is definitely to get into a duplex, or a home with a mother in law apartment and live in one side and rent out the other side or basement.
Great way to start building equity and live for half the cost...

Hey Joseph, that sounds like a solid plan! I'd say jump in, if it is what you really wan to do, and give it a whirl, I'm sure you could pick up a few deals.
I did my licensing with Stringham and enjoyed it. I know they recently updated it as well. Can't speak to the others necessarily. The board of realtors also just started a class I believe so that might be something to look into also.
You will not have a problem finding a brokerage. EVERY Brokerage is going to want you to work there, so keep in mind that YOU have the control/power of choosing where to go based on culture, features, splits, pros/cons, etc.
Good luck!

In Utah, the BBA can be specific to a property. Make sure it has that property address on the form and you’ll be fine. If you don’t purchase that property, you’re free to not use that agent in the future.

@Dee Deeksha I would try shooting for a duplex, or something with a potential mother in law. You can find a lot of these in the midvale/millcreek/murray area, or also south jordan or west jordan.

It really depends on your investing criteria and goals. Those are all great areas that you mentioned, and you can find newer bigger homes in South Jordan, Riverton, Daybreak, Herriman, etc. but you will be more central, and likely in an older, and slightly smaller home overall if you go to Murray/Millcreek.
How long do you plan to stay in the home? @Dee Deeksha

I have "househacked" my last 3 homes, and it has been amazing. I personally would highly recommend a duplex or single family home with a mother-in-law apartment to help cover the mortgage. If you can find a home that you can house hack, it will really open your options for other investment properties down the road. Reach out if you have any questions, I'm happy to help!

Hey Preston, nice introduction and welcome to real estate. It is a great thing to get involved in!
I am doing some investing in Salt lake County as well, and have "house hacked" my last 3 homes which has allowed me to grow and continue picking up properties. If you can find a good deal, 2-4 units is definitely the way to go! Or, you might also consider finding something with a mother-in-law as well - that is what I have done, and it's worked out great.
Good luck in your search and stay connected. Feel free to reach out if you have any specific questions.
