Welcome, I hope to meet you at some of the LOCAL REI groups. There are many in the Chicago area. Try them all. Different formats, different people, different ideas. I find some I didn't like, others I did. However you could be different. Don't listen to what others say, find out for yourself.

Had I listened to what others said, I would have only gone to Renatus (yeah enough said there).

 you have nailed it. It doesn't matter if you bring in $100k or $1M in gross income. What matters is the profit. If your expenses are $30k and you bring in $100k that is $70k, but if you gross $1m and your expenses are 995k, ouch.. 

This is why a restaurant that grossed $3m last year in Seattle is now closing, because the increased minimum wage took their 4.2% profit and dropped it losing 2%. 

I had talked to someoen a few weeks back that was supposedly setting up a meet in Schaumburg. Would that work for everyone?

Welcome. I too am new to this site, but not really a "new" investor.
