@Reden Dionisio, @Nathan Gesner, @Scott Krone, @Ben McMahon
I really appreciate the comments and advice that everyone is giving on this thread!
So, what I am planning on doing is very similar to what Ben is doing: Class C, no more than 200 doors....my own "mom and pop" operation to begin with.
I have the capital lined up, but I need to go through all the steps of estimating my income based upon a certain level of occupancy and estimating my expenses. I still need to do my research on possible locations (I know my region), possible builders, land development costs, etc.
"Simple" things like knowing what I should be paying for land is hard to estimate...

Hey Taylor,
Thanks for letting me know your thoughts about Scott, and for mentioning Michael Wagner! I will look him up.

I am wanting to start my own business in Self Storage. I already started my LLC, and have been partnering as an investor on some rental properties, but have not pulled the trigger on purchasing an existing self storage facility, or developed any specific plans for starting something from the ground up.
I have seen people comment about the website selfstorageinvesting.com and have started listing to some of Scott Meyers podcasts.
I am considering signing up for their live self storage accademy, but do not know if the content/ education is worth the investment (vs. reading his book, other options, etc).
Has anyone out there taken this course? Is it worth it? What are the other options out there?
I only recently joined BiggerPockets and it seems more tailored to residential real-estate, not Self Storage (i.e. no calculator that maybe fits the self storage model...idk).
Thanks,
Dave
