Hi, I am looking at my 1st Duplex house hack in the Bay Area and would like to talk to a CPA about getting going!

so for my area it is comparable in price. The rent is market for the tenant and section 8. Their rent would cover more than 1/2 of the mortgage. The unit that I will be moving to will be vacant in March. I will most likely have to do some upgrades and little fixes. Is there a dollar amount that would be insane to have to spend on repairs? New carpets/floors, patching and paint etc? The street is being developed and 40 new townhomes are being built next door. 

Here we go! I found a slightly distressed duplex in an area where the city has approved a build of townhomes in the lot adjacent to the duplex. The occupied unit is an an older couple that gets their income from the state and section 8 pays the rest. I would have a few upgrades to take care of in my unit and pest repoert came back a little over 1100 for repairs. It will be my 1st. What are your thoughts? Thanks for your input!

did you do it? It sounds legit. Get the FHA and it is your primary residence. The next door pays rent and it goes to you mortgage. Update us and tell us how it is?
