That’s a great way to start and I have also lived in a duplex for short time and it really help me jump start. I’d recommend the same if your family situation can handle it. Plus if you pick a cool area like near downtown you can get into an expensive asset and live very cheaply, in a good area, while building wealth. Honestly it’s the best if you don’t mind moving around. I’d be happy to recommend some good neighborhoods if you’d like.

Hey Josh, thanks for your response. I'd love to speak to you about neighborhoods in Indy and the surrounding area!

Post: House Hack Cash Flow Question

Would you ever consider purchasing a house hack that has a small amount of negative cash flow (when considering all expenses to budget for, of course), knowing that cash flow would be positive once you moved out and gained income from the unit that you were occupying?

What’s up, BP community? My name is Drew and I live in Indianapolis. I don’t know much about real estate, but I’ve just recently stumbled upon the BP podcast and have been trying to listen to/read as much BP content as possible in my free time. While on a road trip last week, I finished Brandon Turner’s The Book on Rental Property Investing, which was amazing, Ken McElroy’s ABCs of Real Estate Investing, and started Brandon Turner’s The Book on Investing in Real Estate With No (and low) Money Down.

I’m extremely interested in the concept of house hacking and the plan for using that savings to help buy future SFRs that Brandon explains in his book and that’s what I’m going to spend a good portion of my time on researching going forward. Looking forward to interacting with the community!
